HMS recognises that no single organisation can hope to provide the necessary range and breadth of musical opportunities alone. HMS has always enjoyed strong relationships with a number of different local and national project partners. Through our network of partners we have worked extensively with local organisations to enable coherent and effective progression routes for young people. The network allows us to share expertise, resources and ideas and ensure a greater range and breadth of provision across the borough. They also foster open reflective dialogue between professionals, support and encourage training opportunities for musicians and educational professionals and provide high quality advice and support, as music providers seek to expand and develop their provision.
Our network partners and collaborations bring an added dimension to the musical offer and can:
- Serve to inspire, enthuse and motivate pupils and teachers to want to participate in music making
- Bring a multi-cultural dimension to the work of the Hub and can expose children to a host of different music of varying styles and genres
- Provide additional opportunities for the development of musical excellence for all children and in particular, for the gifted and talented
- Provide additional opportunities for the professional development of our existing pool of tutors, teachers and music service staff who are able to work alongside professional musicians and performers
- Provide additional performance opportunities in high profile venues
- Leave a lasting legacy for the development of future work in schools and community settings
These synergistic alliances enable us to broker project partnerships with external organisations, ensuring the wider offer targets schools most in need, and are of mutual benefit to the project provider. In our desire to respond effectively to changing local needs, over time, our network of partners will also change and develop.
Principles upon which the strategic partnerships are based are that planned provision:
- will pay particular regard to issues of access and opportunity in order to ensure an inclusive offer which is culturally diverse
- will recognise Hackney Council and HMN’s commitment to lifelong learning, and recognise the need for assuring continuity and progression in learning including the need to foster excellence where individuals demonstrate particular aptitude
- will recognise the need to acknowledge and celebrate success and present positive role models in order to develop self esteem and raise aspiration
- will develop in a climate of reflective practice, where strategies for the dissemination of most effective practice will be devised and supported, in response to schools, children and young people, parents and carers, and network organisations
- will be supported by strategies to promote the effectiveness of provision in order to attract further investment and advocate for increased commitment to expanding these opportunities, particularly in areas which are currently under served
