Hackney Training Orchestra is a large, inclusive ensemble led by team of experienced HMS tutors. The orchestra play a range of inspiring repertoire and focus on a combination of working from sheet music and improvised activities. HTO is a fantastic opportunity for young players to gain ensemble experience, play alongside lots of other young musicians, to improve their sight-reading and their general musicianship as a whole, and to have lots of fun! The orchestra perform regularly at a variety of different events, and frequently have opportunities to work alongside other HMS Ensembles and network partners such as the London Symphony Orchestra. HTO is open to students who are in Year 4 and above Applicants must be of Grade 2 performance standard or higher. Applicants need not necessarily have taken a Grade 2 exam but should be able to play and sight-read to the level expected of Grade 2 standard players. No audition is necessary for the HTO. Instead, players may become members by a recommendation from their instrumental tutor or school music teacher. HMS will seek this info from tutors/teachers once an application form has been received. Applicants must either live in the borough of Hackney or attend a Hackney school/college/academy.
